July

I hear near there a scratching sound on the concrete

Bare hands hold the can so tight

Back and forth

Back and forth

The hydrant is on full blast

Hoping it will last the entire day

We gather we rather cause it’s 90 degrees in the shade and we got it made

The boom box blasting from the bench

And the ball bouncing against the fence

And Mister Softee is coming around

Hear that familiar sound

Checked the bottom of my shoe it’s glue … no

The chewing gum is still fresh

Watch it stretch

Refusing to let go

Almost like it knows

It’s summertime!
